Ajit Jogi pits himself against CM Raman Singh for Assembly seat in poll-bound Chhattisgarh Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi has announced his candidature from his newly floated political party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) for the upcoming Assembly elections. The JCC has announced a third list of ten party candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections due November in which Jogi has announced his candidature from Rajnandgaon, thereby pitting himself against CM Raman Singh. Ajit Jogi had earlier announced that he would contest against CM Raman Singh from Rajnandgaon during a political programme that ended in the form of a rally at Rajnandgaon in February. Though Raman Singh has not announced that he would contest from Rajnandgaon, he has been representing the seat in the Assembly for two terms -- 2008 and 2013. Jogi had resigned from the Congress in 2016 after he was removed from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) after audiotapes purportedly indicating his son's involvement in fixing a bypoll in favour of the BJP had emerged. Jogi had immediately floated his own political party after his ties broke with the Congress. In the list of candidates, former MP and Congress leader Devvrat Singh who has joined the JCC has been cited as a candidate from Khairagarh. Singh hails from the erstwhile royal family of Khairagarh. Former minister Vidhan Mishra has been named the party candidate from Dharseeva. While both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have not announced party candidates as yet, the JCC has announced 29 candidates against the 90 Assembly segments in the state. With Ajit Jogi throwing his hat in the ring, the contest is likely to get interesting. Jogi's wife Renu Jogi and son Amit are MLAs from Kota and Marwahi respectively. While Renu Jogi continues to be a Congress MLA, Amit is an unattached MLA after he was expelled from the Congress.
